Javier Peláez was born in Mexico City in 1976. He studied Architecture at La Salle University.

He has been a resident artist at Vermont Studio Center (Vermont, USA, 2016), Casa NaNo (Tokyo, Japan, 2017) and Casa Wabi (Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, 2021). From 2012 to 2015, he served as co-director of Diagrama, an independent platform based in Mexico City dedicated to contemporary painting. His artworks are included in collections such as the Casa Wabi Collection, and the Museo de Arte de Sonora (MUSA), as well as several other institutions including the Secretaría de Hacienda Collection, the Museo de la Cancillería Collection, the Gaspar Collection, and Bulltick Bank Collection, among others.

His solo exhibitions feature showcases such as "Intervalos" at Saenger Galería (Mexico City, 2022), "Al Borde de un Pliegue" at Galería de Arte Antonio López Saenz (Culiacán, 2021), "Reconfiguraciones" at Museo de Arte de Sonora (Hermosillo, 2021), and "Broken Tree" presented at both Museo de Arte de Sonora (Hermosillo, 2020) and William Turner Gallery (Los Angeles, 2019). Additional solo shows include "Satori" (Galería 123, Mexico City, 2018), "Naturaleza Indeterminada" (Drexel Galería, Monterrey, 2015), "At the Front Door of a Stone" (William Turner Gallery, 2017), "Vanitas" (Museo de la Ciudad, Querétaro, 2013), "Objetos Sagrados" (Toca Galería, Mexico City, 2010), and "Objects and Metaphors" (Arcadia Gallery, New York, 2008).

Furthermore, his contributions to both national and international group exhibitions are noteworthy. These include "Bitácoras" at Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Querétaro (2022), "Confluence" at William Turner Gallery (Los Angeles, 2021), "Geometric Abstraction in Latin America" at George Mason University (Virginia, 2019), and "Paisajes Flotantes" at Archivo Colectivo (Mexico City, 2019). He has also participated in the exhibition "Pararrayos: Doce Pintores Contemporáneos de México" at the Embassy of Mexico in Berlin (2015), the XVI Bienal Internacional de Pintura Tamayo at Museo Rufino Tamayo (Oaxaca, 2014-2015), the 6th Miradas Biennial at Centro Cultural Tijuana (2014), and "Death Nature" at The Laundromat Gallery (New York, 2011).
