Javier was born in Mexico City in 1976.
He studied Architecture at La Universidad La Salle.
For over fifteen years,he has built a significant career as a visual artist primarily focused on painting
while building a language in which he explores the limits between illusion, materiality, and the
perception of reality, both in Mexico and internationally.
He has held artist residencies at Casa Wabi (Puerto Escondido, Oax., Mexico, 2021), Casa NaNo
(Tokyo, Japan, 2017), and Vermont Studio Center (Vermont, USA, 2016).
His work is part of important public and private collections, including the Fundación Casa Wabi
Collection, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo y de las Culturas Oaxaqueñas,, Museo de Arte de
Sonora (MUSAS), Museo de La Cancillería Collection, Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público de
México Collection, Gaspar Collection, Ugarit Collection, Bulltick Bank Collection, Baco Collection,
Jaka Collection, Yaco García Collection, Pinto Mazal Collection, and S+A Collection.

He’s also been featured in numerous national and international art fairs such as Untitled Miami, Art
Miami, Dallas Art Fair, LA Art Show, Art Chicago, Art Collaboration Kyoto, Positions Berlin, Material,
Salon Acme, and Zona Maco.
In 2025, Javier’s work has been selected as a winner of the acquisition prize at the XX Bienal de
pintura Rufino Tamayo (one of the most important events at the time in Mexico) to be presented at
Museum of Contemporary Art of Oaxaca and Museo Rufino Tamayo at CDMX.
His work has been published in various digital and print platforms, including Visual Art Source, LA
Times, Art in America, American Art Collector, Art News, Fahrenheit, and Punto de Partida, among
others. He has been included in the book ‘Pintura: México Vol. I”. Recently his first monograph was
edited: “Javier Peláez: High Performance”, containing texts by Shana Nys Dambrot, Michel Blancsubé,
and Christian Barragán.
